Brooklyn Cocktail
22 May 2011
The Brooklyn Cocktail requires one of the more frustrating ingredients to find – Torani Amer. The “official spirit” of San Francisco, Torani Amer is not available outside of California. Or at least that was my experience, while trying to find it. After four months of searching, I had it delivered to a liquor store in California where I picked it up in person. How would I describe it? Well, something like:
San Francisco’s favorite for 65 yrs. Mix ice, grenandine & amer for a pleasant drink.
Well that’s real damn useful. Grenadine and amer over ice for a pleasant drink. It tastes like good cough syrup, it’s cheap, and it’s hard to procure. So, is it worth it, to make this cocktail? Not really.
The Luxardo plays well with the Torani. Rye and dry vermouth are a pretty classic combination, so that works too. Together, they all work fine, but the final result is a bit of a mess, flavored of cherries, and a little too sweet.
I wouldn’t bother, there’s nothing to see here.
