The Aviation

21 Feb 2011

It seems I’m running low on gin again. I think perhaps next time I’ll buy it in a 1.75L bottle instead; too many of these drinks require it. In any event, The Aviation is a simple affair. Lemon juice, gin, and a dash of maraschino liqueur is all it takes:

“Like Limoncello without the burn” and “a dry lemonhead” seems like apt descriptions. It’s a little acidic with the quantity of lemon juice required, but it’s not unpleasant as a palate-exciting cocktail. Made at similar strength to a martini, however, it’s important to note that this is not a gentle cocktail; one at the start of the meal will put you half in the bag. Made in smaller quantities and served in apertif stemware or even shot glasses, I think this could be a nice starter cocktail on a warm evening.
