Jasper's Jamaican Planter's Punch
15 Apr 2012
The book presents these as two cocktails, sort of. The base of both cocktails is a mix of lime juice, sugar, and Angostura bitters. Honestly, it seems sort of like a Falernum without the almonds. It’s called Jasper’s Secret Mix, and I guess it’s not really a secret anymore.
Jasper’s Jamaican Planter’s Punch then goes and mixes the secret mix equally with dark rum, stirs over crushed ice, and garnishes however one pleases. I used vacuum-pickled pineapple in 151-proof Gosling’s, personally, but do whatever feels right, I guess.
Jasper’s Rum Punch, then, is the same thing, but with overproof white rum
For me, the latter is the far more enjoyable drink; without the additional molasses/sweet notes of the dark rum, the drink is a lot hotter and spicier. Quite enjoyable, as rum punches go, and in general. Recommended.
